The University of Ajmer was established on 1 August 1987. Its name was changed from the University of Ajmer to Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer vide Rajasthan State Gazette dated 5 May, 1992. It is named after great philosopher Maharshi Dayananda Saraswati. The University was registered in the year 1993 under section 12(B) of UGC Act,1956. Since the day of its inception, the University was entrusted with a major responsibility of organizing the examination of nearly 1.5 lakh students of colleges spread over the six divisions of the state. In 1990 teaching began in History, Political science, zoology, botany and mathematics departments. In 1991, M.Phil, teaching programmes were initiated by History, Political Science, Botany departments and later promising job oriented courses such as PG diplomas in Environmental Technology, Microbiology, and lab. technology and instrumentation were started. In 1993, after shifting to the new campus, departments of microbiology, foods and nutrition, applied chemistry, management studies and computer applications were created offering M.Sc, MBA, PG Diploma and Ph. D. programmes. In a short span of seven years academic wing of University came out with enormous research work in the form of publications, Ph.D. thesis, and research projects. In 1998 university started Postgraduate programme in Environmental Science, and in 2000 Postgraduate programmes in Botany Zoology, Business Economics, Commerce, Population  Studies, History, Political Science and Computer Science with specializations that did not exist other colleges in Ajmer. The University has a campus of 142 acres, situated in urban surroundings. It is the largest affiliating University in the state of Rajasthan.  There are 214 Government and Private colleges affiliated to this University. These affiliated colleges are spread over 9 districts of the state of Rajasthan. The University conducted an examination of 1,35,000 students for various courses during the 2007-08 session.

Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University Undergraduate Admissions 2019

Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University offers two graduate programmes - B.Sc. Naturopathy & Yogic Science and B.Sc. Food Science in Nutrition. Both these courses are for a duration of two years. The University also offers a five year MCA (Integrated) course.

The application procedure for these three courses start in the month of June and the Final merit list is out by the mid-July.

Selection to these courses is based on the merit of the Students in their 10+2 examinations. The Students don’t have to sit for any entrance test in order to get selected for these courses.

Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University Postgraduate Admissions 2019

The University also offers various Postgraduate courses under a number of different specializations. All these courses are for a duration of two except for MCA and MCA Lateral Entry courses.

The regular MCA course is for a duration of three years, whereas, MCA (Lateral Entry course) is just for a duration of one year. MDSU also offers 1 year PG Diploma courses under various specializations.

The application process for these Postgraduate courses start in the month of June and admission to all these courses are based on the marks obtained by them in their previous qualifying examination. No separate Entrance tests are organized for admission to these courses.

MDSU also offers M.Phil and Ph.D. courses on various different specializations. The M.Phil course is offered with seven different subjects and the Ph.D. course is offered under 17 different fields of research.

The application process for the M.Phil. courses start in the month of July and selection of Students is done based on the marks obtained by them in the qualifying examinations.

The application process for the Ph.D. courses start in the month of July and the eligible Students need to sit for an entrance test organized by the University in order to get selected for the course.
